Mount Orab, Ohio, is named after the nearby Mount Orab, a hilltop with a prominent knob. The hill was named after Captain Michael O'Hara, an Irish-American who fought in the Revolutionary War.

Mount Orab is home to the Serpent Mound, a large earthen effigy of a serpent built by the Adena culture around 1070 CE. The mound is over 1,300 feet long and 3 feet tall, and it is one of the largest and most complex effigy mounds in North America.

The area around Mount Orab was once home to a variety of Native American tribes, including the Adena, Hopewell, and Fort Ancient cultures. These tribes left behind a rich legacy of archaeological sites, including the Serpent Mound, the Hopewell Earthworks, and the Fort Ancient Earthworks.

In the 19th century, Mount Orab was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to a number of mills, factories, and businesses. Mount Orab was also a popular destination for tourists, who came to see the Serpent Mound and other local attractions.

Today, Mount Orab is a small town with a population of around 3,500 people. The town is still home to a number of historical sites, including the Serpent Mound and the Mount Orab Cemetery.
