isolated severe weather in North Dakota

Post by burr28514 » Fri Apr 28, 2006 4:35 pm

Spotty thunderstorms, some of which have turned severe managed to develop around 2 pm cdt today over North Dakota, and these spotty storms continue as of 5 pm cdt. Most of the action is off to the west of Fargo, and southwest of the Grand Forks North Dakota area. There's actually been some tornado warnings issued This Afternoon out of the Bismarck and Grand Forks weather offices, haven't seen any actual tornado reports, but i've read some reports of funnel clouds along with some large hail. These storms will decrease in coverage and intensity after 9 or 10 pm Tonight, once the sun sets and the atmosphere becomes more stable. The storms Today over North Dakota got going thanks to a cold pool of air aloft associated with an area of low pressure over the Dakotas, some sun earlier Today caused some heating, and this associated with the colder air aloft triggered the isolated severe thunderstorms over parts of North Dakota Today.

Flood Watches have also been issued for parts of Southwest Minnesota and Southeast South Dakota and these are in effect thru Sunday. Could see 1 to 3 inches or more of rainfall in these areas by Sunday.
